Tour Summary
Pick-ups for this small group, Bryce Canyon overnight tour, which also visits Zion National Park, take place at most major Las Vegas Strip hotels. You will head through the Nevada desert with a photo stop at the Virgin River Gorge in Arizona. There is a comfort break as you enter Utah.
Zion National Park is a short distance up the road, and you will tour through that, with stops along the way to admire the views and take pictures. Bryce Canyon is obviously the highlight of the trip, with spectacular views as far as the eye can see. There are four main view points and you’ll see and explore all of them.
You are then on your own for the rest of the day, and will spend the night at Bryce. We’ll pick you up again the following afternoon for the ride back to Vegas.
Tour Detail
We pick up from most major Las Vegas Strip hotels starting at about 6 a.m, and will take you on a trip to one of the most magical, mystical places on earth. Leaving the Strip behind, we head north on Interstate 15, over the Arizona Strip – one of the most desolate areas in the United States – and through the Virgin River Gorge, into Utah. Yo’ll be in three states today, and we will stop frequently to allow you to take photographs, stretch your legs, and admire the scenery.
The first major destination is Zion National Park. Zion’s story is one of rock and water, with plenty of both to be seen. The relatively soft Navajo Sandstone often sits on top of a layer of impregnable Kayenta Shale, and the interaction of this rock with the water has created shapes and patterns that are a joy to see. Amongst the stops is the Great Arch of Zion, a gigantic work in progress. From the Arch we climb up a precipitous switchback road, and through a magnificent, mile long, tunnel that has been blasted into the Navajo Sandstone. Emerging on the other side, you can see how massive sand dunes have been cemented into rock over the millennia. Our Zion National Park photo album can be viewed here.
Leaving Zion by the east entrance, we travel up one of the most beautiful roads in the country, Utah Highway 89, through verdant, lush countryside, alongside rivers and streams, before climbing up to the Paunsaugunt Plateau, home to Bryce Canyon. On the way in we will drop your luggage off at your hotel.
Bryce is simply unbelievable, and the hoodoos will wow you. People tell us they have had a spiritual experience when they gaze out over the hoodoos for the first time. You will wonder not only how the hoodoos got there, but also what carved them into those mythical shapes, and created the rich palette of colors. Please check out our Bryce Canyon photos.
We generally drop off guests at Sunrise Point, for the easy stroll along the rim to Sunset Point. Take your time, check out the sights and shoot a bunch of pictures. After the walk you can enjoy a sack lunch under the towering Ponderosa Pine trees. This is included in the price. If you do not want to do the walk you can stay with our guide who will drive you to the next viewpoint.
There are two other main areas we will visit at Bryce, both of which are even more spectacular than what you’ve seen already. These are the aptly named Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. Please be aware that Bryce is at a high elevation. You may become breathless if you are not used to the altitude, and you shouldn’t try and overdo it.
Once you’ve seen all four vantage points, your guide can either take you back to your hotel on the way out of Bryce, or you can stay in the park and explore some more. You can then take the free shuttle back. You have most of the day tomorrow to see some more of Bryce, until one of our guides picks you up in the early afternoon. There is a free shuttle that services all four of the main points at Bryce, and there is a shuttle stop at your hotel.
Depending on the time available, there are two possible routes back. We may drop south along Utah 89 for a short way, before heading west over a steep mountain pass, and past Cedar Breaks National Monument. The scenery is spectacular all the way, with great views from time to time of the towering sandstone cliffs of Zion, off in the distance. The road exits the canyon in the small southern Utah town of Cedar City. The alternative route is to head north on 89, through the small town of Panguitch, and up and down a mountain range until we reach Interstate 15.
Whichever way we go there will be a comfort and food stop at Cedar City before returning to Vegas.
